Rent Free

Rent Free

Closet Confessions are a popular feature on social media but I have something different for you because I don't buy on impulse, I consider my purchases long before I make them to avoid mistakes. I have curated a round up of the pieces and styling ideas that despite myself are living rent free in my head this week. I may never buy them, I may source something preloved or vintage that fits the bill or I may forget about them altogether and there will be no harm done.

Coats with a scarf / shawl scarf attached. Preferably double faced wool, Ideally edge to edge (no fastening) and the scarf/shawl should be in exactly the same colour/fabric and be attached to the coat in a meaningful way (no poppers or zips please) either designed as one piece or connected with buttons and be big enough to get a dramatic sweep over the shoulder, As though I am a 50s film star boarding a private jet. I had to double check they had private jets in the 1950, Turns out they did so that vision stands.

Wedge evening shoes in a dark oxblood red. The wedge needs to be narrow, The leather glossy but not patent and they will have some sort of toe bar that will no doubt make them incredibly uncomfortable to walk in.

A pair of straight leg trousers in vinyl, I have a slim leg pair which I struggle to wear because they're a wee bit tight around my bum and thighs so have the unfortunate side effect of squeaking as I walk. When I say Vinyl I mean PVC. High shine. Sound hideous? You'll have to trust me. They look great with knitwear or a tailored blazer and as expected are wipe clean so excellent for spillages. Win-win.

Suede driving shoes with a fur lining. Utterly impractical for any use other than an indoor slipper but I think about them and I want to wear them outdoors and these are my confessions. Feel free to explore them yourself but I'm accepting no blame for your poor decisions.

Super super super skinny straps on a camisole, Not sure where this came from, Maybe I am thinking ahead for party season. In my mind's eye I have a lot more tone to my shoulders and clavicle than in reality and that's really helping my vision. Not one for anyone with a heaving bust as there isn't a lot of support offered, Unless they were not god given and stand up on their own ala Pammy in the 90s, Then you're good.

Brooches on jackets. I need never buy another jacket again but finding new ways to wear them makes me happy. Folding the lapels over and pinning them closed with a vintage brooch is my new favourite thing and if I tire of this trick both items can go back to their old lives unscathed.

Tobacco Silk Trousers, Specific I know. I actually hate the word tobacco but I think of it in a very French chic way and it reframes it for me, Plus it sounds a lot better than burnt orange? I would like them to be wide leg and high waisted because that is my trousers fit of choice but I have learned my lesson with silky / satin trousers and they can be unforgiving on both the bum and the belly if too high waisted so I am open to discussion on this. Will I wear a matching tobacco silk to?

I haven't decided. You will have to wait and see if this outfit ever makes it out of my head.
