Desert Island Discs
Are we still in lockdown or is it over? I cant keep up.
As the restrictions were lifted we all stepped blinking into the sun, some went full steam ahead to visit pubs and restaurants, keen to return to a physically distanced normal, other were slower, proceeding with understandable trepidation.
While our comfort zones may be at different points one thing is for sure we are all coming out of what has surely been the most strange, testing, confusing and scary periods in our lifetime, Its left me feeling very reflective. I’m a big fan of Desert Island discs and have often thought about the essentials i would take if ever i found myself stranded but with the options to have my luxury items with me.
The beginning of April with the shops indefinitely closed was the closest i have ever come to being stranded without my essentials, my cleanser was getting low and the website was showing out of stock and my shampoo was hazardously close to empty, it was touch and go for a minute, but thankfully retailers were quick to adapt to the necessary measures and normal service for online retails resumed quickly, self - care disaster averted.
Clothes wise the essentials for lockdown were pretty much the same for everyone, ASOS reported healthy looking sales for the period April - June thanks to us all clambering for Lounge and active wear whilst confined to our homes. The only thing i coveted was a pair of fancy schmancy Desmond & Dempsey Pyjamas after one lucky friend posted pictures on social media wearing hers, and a replacement pair of Lululemon leggings, which were at one point as rare as hens teeth.
Lockdown taught me a lot about myself, I learnt that unless I'm going out i couldn't care less about my appearance, I like wearing comfy clothes more than i care to admit and i could live happily ever after in Pyjamas.
But hopefully, for now, that time is over its time to kick off our slippers and re-boot our lives and that requires more than desert island essentials, Trousers that don't have an elasticated waist, mascara, there may even be a pedicure on the horizon, were going to need a bigger boat.
