What's the story?
I love a story, I’m inquisitive (much different than being nosy) so i like the background of everything, I Google the cast mid-movie as i like to know who I'm watching.
I’m the same with fashion, I am not satisfied with a brand at face value, I want to know who they are and what they are about. Adidas isn't just a catchy name for a trainer brand, Adi Dassler was the founder of the Sports Giant, with his brother Rudi Dassler who went onto launch Puma after the brothers had a huge fallout, hence the two brands having a sixty year feud.
Did you know Nike was the scrappy under-dog of the sneaker world before Michael Jordan signed his Air Jordan deal which went on to be the most successful sports endorsement in history? This is a good one, Lauren isn't Ralph Lauren’s surname, He changed it age 16 because his Surname saw him bullied as it contained an unfortunate word, I will leave you to look up that one.
For me a brands story is part of their charm, proving they are authentic, Lucy & Yak who make the comfiest dungarees money can buy have an inspirational story about how they met their tailor Ismail who owned a small factory in Northern India paying his staff 4 times as much as the minimal wage in India, they have continued to support Ismail not only to pay his staff fairly but building a new factory so that the staff who hand-make their garments work in a safe, clean and air conditioned environment, you can see a picture and read about each of the tailors who make their clothes on their website, which makes receiving your dungarees pretty special.
Its the people behind the brands I fall for, Maison Cleo is a mother - daughter duo who hand make all of their blouses at home in Northern France out of remnant and vintage fabrics, they are selling on Net-a-Porter for very little profit to publicise their tiny brand and to help people see brands like theirs exist, Isn't that a great story? They say no story lives unless someone wants to listen, I'm listening, are you?
