Excess who?
I'm not an outfit girl, Unless it's a 2-3 day trip I don't plan outfits (or “looks” if you prefer the term) I prefer to have separates that allow me the option to style depending on my mood and crucially - the vibe. Because unless you have been going to the same place annually how do you know how boujee your destination, the restaurants, the hotel etc? You need to have a few little tricks up your sleeve to be able to up the ante if required. There are beach looks and there are beach looks.
I have my holiday stalwarts, pieces that come with me no matter what beach resort, I don't need multiples of them or feel the need to find updated versions, they include my Haviannas, black, & slim I haven't been tempted by the recent collaboration between the Brazilian flip flop brand and French bohemian brand Isabel Marant, the Tie Dye style retails for £120, they are a nice looking flip flop but when the original is a mere £30 there is no question. The only diversion I have made over the years is to have a white pair which didn't fare as well and a pearly metallic pair which were nice with tanned feet.
Swimwear wise, I know what i like, my palette is black, olive & bronze and I still wear a bikini and have no intention of stopping (go ahead and judge me) what changes is the body in it, i dont think I've taken the same body on holiday since my twenties so i add / edit my swim collection depending on my needs each year, ie more / less support / coverage and I rarely wear a matching set, I mix and match colours, prints and shapes. Are you sensing a pattern? Separates are my thing and I am not a fan of fashion rules.
Next up scarves, which on holiday become sarongs or Pareos (the tahitian word for the patterned wrapped fabric creating a wrap skirt) If you haven't already noticed sarongs are very much having their moment in the sun, both proverbially and literally, such is his influence when Dries Van Noten sends something down the catwalk, the fashion world listens, his Spring Summer 2026 menswear collection featured stunning printed sarongs worn over trousers and chinos, If you take one piece of advice from me let it be to be to be inspired by his genius and buy a large printed scarf, knot it over your swimwear as a cover up, wear it as a skirt with a simple tank or over trousers in a true Dries homage.
3 looks with 1 scarf…excess baggage who?
