Get your coat
When i was a teenager and nights on the town became my favourite pastime, I never wore a coat, not if i could help it, in part it was because i didn't want to “ruin” my outfit by putting any old coat over it, and I'm sure there was an element of not wanting to wait at the coat check or use any of our precious kitty to pay for it, the only time we ever gave in was in the depths of winter when waiting for a taxi in the early hours made hypothermia a real threat, plus winter coats are more glamorous, you can opt for fur (faux or otherwise) even a simply black wool coat is immediately dressed up with a slick of red lipstick.
Things are very different now, I wouldn't dream of leaving the house without a coat if there was even a remote chance i would be cold, it helps of course that i am no longer trying to persuade a doorman i am over 21 (even then i don't think my excessive use of blusher and overloaded lip gloss was particularly convincing) but choosing a coat to wear over a summer outfit still poses a conundrum, and with the government guidelines for meeting friends is limited to outside for the time being, were going to need a coat for the British Weather.
For daytime I usually favour a trench, or an oversized blazer but they don't offer much warmth once the sun goes in, sitting outside enjoying and enjoying some much needed time with friends past sun-down is going to require layers and a jacket that works over them…in 2019 (the last time i shopped in a physical store)
I invested in a French workwear style denim jacket, it didn't have all of the features that make me dislike denim jackets, no wobbly jean buttons, it is indigo denim, but with “worn in” effects, no funny little front pockets (with even more buttons) and its not cropped, its straight and cut more like a blazer, but without the lapels (a denim blazer would look like a member of 90s band B*witched) its the perfect layering jacket, what is your go-to outdoor jacket ?
