Lock down Part Deux

Lock down Part Deux

Here we go again, lockdown Part Deux, except for it isn't really is it? Its lockdown, but its not more of the same is it?

Exercise isn't limited to once a day like it was before, there is no Thursday night clapping (a relief for some, but for many it provided a welcome neighbourly camaraderie in otherwise lonely days) and the biggest difference? This time around we know what were in for.

Those who have lockdown licked have their favourite restaurant on speed dial (its a little known fact that takeaways are calorie free during lockdown) and have already chosen a programme with a minimum of three series’ to binge watch on Netflix.

But lets not forget that lockdown is much easier for some than it is for others, the Quote “we may all be in the same storm, but were not all in the same boat” explains it perfectly. So while its good to spare a thought for those who aren't able to work from home, all cozy in their slippers, good thoughts don't help those whose businesses are considered “non essential” those who stocked up their shops in time for the “Golden Quarter” (retails name for the three months leading up to christmas, when people spend the most money) only to have their plans shattered by this latest lockdown.

There is a very simple way to help, its something many of you will no doubt be partaking in soon anyway, shopping. May i suggest, Instead of heading to the online sites of your usual high street haunts to look for gifts, perhaps see if the same item is available from an independent shop selling online, I have noticed lots of  shops under restrictions offering a click & collect service, allowing people to save on postage and collect their purchases at their store. Social Media is awash with small businesses who would be so appreciative of your purchase at a time like this. Yes, it may be more time consuming, and potentially even a little more expensive, but where we choose to spend our money in the lead up to Christmas will be the make or break of many a small business. I will leave you with another of my favourite quotes “ Every time you buy from a small business an actual person does a happy dance” So make someones year, shop small, shop local, shop independent.
