Move over Trump, Kamala is here
I don't know about you but I was enthralled by the recent American Election,
Its not that i care about their politics more than ours, far from it, but it fascinates me that anyone can become President providing they are a natural-born citizen of the United States, are at least 35 years old and been a resident for 14 years, I googled the requirements for presidency when Donald Trump, a reality TV star announced his candidacy back in 2015. Until then I had no idea that the titles “leader of the free world” could be handed to virtually anyone who could afford a campaign. My interest was also due to the running mate of the now President-elect Joe Biden was a woman, not any women but Kamala Harris the Vice President elect of the United State of America is a Black Asian-American woman, her election was a historical, pivotel moment, celebrated all over the world. Michelle Obama made history as the FLOTUS, In Fashion terms, Obama is a tough act to follow, she made all the right choices, opting for new independent brands Prabel Gurung, supporting black owned brands such as Tracy Reese, wearing affordable brands like J Crew that made her appear down to earth, and most memorably catapulting a 26 year old unknown designer Jason Wu to fame when she wore his white one shoulder dress to the Inauguration ball in 2009. Thus far the VP-elect’s wardrobe has been unremarkable, pant suits and pearls are a mainstay, but the white Caroline Herrera trouser suit and pussy bow blouse she chose for her acceptance speech tells me Harris is aware her choice of clothes will be subject to scrutiny, the colour white is often associated with the Suffrage movement, Shirley Chisholm, the first African American woman to be elected to Congress back in 1968 also wore all white.
I believe Kamala Hariis deliberately chose white as a silent gesture, she knows the world is watching her, and she is up for to the challenge and I for one cant wait to see what she does next, roll on her inauguration in January.
