Repeat Wear but make it A-list
I recently mocked the term #repeatwear for stating the blinking obvious, who on earth buys clothes with the intention of wearing them once, but in retrospect I'm happy to eat humble pie as i now understand that the intention of the hashtag is to “normalise” wearing your clothes frequently on Instagram.
What I didn’t appreciate was that prior to #repeatwear becoming a thing, there was a lot of pressure for influencers / wannabe influencers to not be seen wearing the same outfit on their grid or stories more than once, so as not to “bore” their audience, the knock on effect, apart from the promotion of vulgar over consumption, was the content we were seeing wasn't authentic, some of the more honest influencers admitted to keep their content fresh they were buying clothes, photographing themselves wearing it, then returning, others kept schtum but it was quite obvious they were doing exactly the same thing, even from a fast fashion perspective it could not be maintained, they would have needed a warehouse never mind a wardrobe!
Any efforts to promote a more sustainable attitude towards clothes should be applauded, The Duchess of Cambridge is often spotted wearing outfits she has worn to previous Royal Engagements, when i think of all the beautiful dresses lying Barren in celebrities wardrobes it makes me feel sad, I still wonder what happened to the Yellow Anna Molinari slip Sarah Jessica Parker wore for her Emmys debut is 1999 is, I loved it then and I love it now.
One A-lister who is making sure her Red Carpet Looks don't gather dust is Angelina Jolie , currently on a press tour for her new movie Eternals she hit the Red Carpet with 5 of her 6 children who were all wearing Vintage or Upcycled clothes from Jolie’s own wardrobe, most recognisable was the dress chosen by her 16-year-old daughter Zahara who wore the shimmering metallic Elie Saab Gown that her mother wore to the 2014 Oscars.
Its no surprise that the Jolie-Pitt brood are following in their famous mums sustainable footsteps, Earlier this year the Actress and Diplomat told Vogue she “invests in quality pieces, and then just wears them to death” if its good enough for Angelina, its good enough for me.
