Rethinking Sequin Season

Rethinking Sequin Season

t’s that time of year that if you’re lucky (or unlucky depending on how social you are) that every weekend until the big day is jam packed and the likelihood is you will have more than 1 party, drinks, event to attend, like it or not. The Social Butterflies among us will be thrilled of course, digging out their sequins and dancing shoes, it is their moment to shine, bauble earrings optional.

If party wear isn’t your vibe finding something to wear for multiple nights out on top of the planning the festive season and can take the shine off, so I suggest you treat your Christmas party looks as you think about your Christmas decorations, some people go all out, lights inside and outside, garlands, multiple trees or you can offer a nod to the season, a simple wreath, a subtle tree and it still works, capeesh?

This should be the easiest season to dress for, we all know what’s expected of us, wearing black is pretty much a given, shimmer is expected and wearing sequins won’t leave you feeling like a strictly contestant as there is always going to be someone wearing more sequins than you.

If you aren’t the type of person who has a go-to sequin party dress / jumpsuit, this doesn’t mean you need to go and buy half a dozen, go back to basics and pull the following out of your wardrobe and it will start to build a picture. Black or Cream Trousers (wide or slim) Black or Cream Jacket (tux not a work blazer, I’m not the Grinch) Then think texture, silky, velvet, sheer, in black, cream, gold, silver, and bronze and pull out all of your blouses, tops and skirts that fit the bill, lastly if you have any pull out the big guns, tassels, sequins, feathers.

How many looks can you build? Can you see the gaps? Quite often its the basics you are missing, often they are what’s needs to make old separates look modern, a simple tank or a black strapless top to wear under the tux, a crop top for under a sheer blouse so you can tuck into high waisted trousers, or a great white shirt to tuck into a pencil skirt, just add bold gold earrings and a sparkly hand held bag et voila you’re in festive mode.

Sometimes all that’s needed is a bit of a try on, a sweep of false tan and a good blow dry.
