Its Bitter
Brrrrrrr Its BALTIC out there!! Why every year am I taken by surprise when the temperature plummets? Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate it, sunny cold days are the best you can ask for in Winter, sparkly floors where Jack Frost has been and having to wear sunglasses to shelter from the low sun is my kind of cold weather.
When the little snowflake icon appears next to the temperature in my car you won’t catch me in any less than 3 layers until things warm up a few notches, but wearing layers doesn’t just mean piling on all your cosies at once, no one wants to look bulky. Chunky jumpers are great when you’re outdoors but often they don’t fit well under your coat, they can be cumbersome and restrictive especially around the arms.
Casual cosy styling is easy, puffa coat, sheepskin boots, hoodie, sorted. But what about those days when you have to be in the office? Let me teach you the rule of three, 3 layers add warmth but they also change your clothes into “a look”
Always start with a base layer, a long or short sleeve t-shirt with a crew neck, white or something tonal such as grey, while I love the colour black it doesn’t scream cosy does it?
A simple sweatshirt with tailored trousers or midi skirts is underrated if you are opting knitwear go for a size bigger than usual, modern layers are never skin tight.
If oversized cardigans feel too casual for your work place try layering yours over a blazer in a complementary or contrasting colour, that way you get the structure of a blazer with the ease and warmth of a cardigan, for extra seasonal trend points keep an eye out for a sleeveless cardigan or knitted tanks they look amazing with smart trousers and are a great way to add a layer to your torso without adding bulk.
While grey is the ultimate neutral be open minded about shades of red wine and pairing it with dusky pink & brown, other interesting layering combinations include orange and navy or chocolate brown and blue
A good rule of thumb when wearing casual sihouetttes is to sharpen things up by adding a belt to the trousers, accessories will pull things together, if you don’t own a brown belt, you’re missing a trick.
Expert layering, seriously cosy.
