Supermarket Sweep

Supermarket Sweep

The price we pay for a nice bottle of olive oil in the supermarket right now shocks me but I think I may have become desensitised to the price of clothes, while I still roll my eyes at price tags in the thousands, I quite often look at clothes costing hundreds of pounds and don’t turn a hair. I am keen on sustainability, ensuring garments are ethically made and well constructed from good quality fabrics, the price of garments this these criteria are often higher

and sometimes I mention them in here, but I want to ensure I keep a balance, keep my head level and include items in my column that are within the realms of both affordability and accessibility, while still making sure I bring you the trends, so here goes.

I started with the supermarkets, because women are the ultimate multi taskers, so why wouldn’t we pick up a cute outfit after grabbing our weekly shop? First up is TU at Sainsbury’s who have wasted no time getting on the festive season bandwagon, and I don’t mean their Christmas jumpers which should always be bought second hand, there are currently 100s of worn-once options on resale platform Vinted, no I am talking party wear, TU have a blue velvet “hourglass” blazer and matching trousers for £50, if you like your party wear with a hint of retro this is the outfit for you.

Florence & Fred at Tesco have clearly hired  designer who has their finger on the pulse, their geometric print blouse and trouser co-ord £34 bears more than a passing resemble to a Toteme set jet-setting influencers are a fan of and their grey midi skirt £22.50 and cropped jacket £35 fits in with the very current ‘corp core’ which is the trend for wearing elevated looking workwear outside of the office.

I have a question for George at Asda, where is the stitch trimmed jacket (another designer inspired by Toteme) that is teasingly on your homepage but not available online? Secondly bravo to whoever styled your website, I surprised myself with how long I spent browsing, good styling with enough nods to trends such a knitwear with scarves attached £24 and trench coats and I can’t not mention the silver shine pant suit, which is very studio 54, and that’s a very good thing, the trousers were £22.50.

Next up Matalan - I was desperately trying to stay away from anything too casual but there is no getting away from their borg (the name it seems were now using for faux shearling) jackets are, I particularly like their Aztec and Camouflage half zips £25.00

Last but you heard it here first, not least Peacocks, former pop star Louise Redknapp lends some of her star quality to the website which helps but the pieces look good to, my favourite piece has to be the strangely named but rather nice ‘Dad coat’ in the colour the season Burgundy £50 it also comes in oatmeal and navy blue.

This is not just a fashion round up, this is an affordably priced, trend inspired supermarket  fashion round up, just add some bananas and a loaf of bread.
