Having it's moment

Having it's moment

While you will no doubt have seen, heard and read that burgundy, oxblood and red wine are the colours of the season i want to talk about Brown. The colour that’s been patiently waiting in the wings for its moment in the spotlight, brushed aside by the more dominant shade of black for years now, but a gradual desire for softer shades from the dark end of the spectrum, charcoal, olive, navy blue has made an opening for brown. If I was Mel Streeps fashion editor character in The devil wears Prada I would be able to pin point the exact moment browns comeback was sealed, which designer felt inspired by the colour of tree bark in nature or something equally as wholesome.

Luxury brands such as Bottega Veneta, Loewe and Miu Miu and Ferragamo are my runway references for all things brown for 2024, but Social media is undoubtedly responsible in some small part for the colour browns PR renaissance, Kim Kardashian has been peddling brown for sometime now, her Skims range has included a palette of warm tones with names such as cocoa and expresso, but we can’t credit a reality tv star turned entrepreneur for the come back of brown can we? Its contentious but i like a bit of controversy in my fashion.

Brown this season is as luxurious and glamorous as can be, dark rich shades dominate in premium fabrics such a leather & suede. The combinations brown is mixing with are also new, while black and brown is easy, navy and brown is chic and khaki and brown looks beautiful, lemon and brown is fresh but not the easiest to pull off, but brown and red is high on the list of combinations you will love when you try.

So how to incorporate brown into your wardrobe? You could start small, a belt, or loafers try Massimo Dutti, for a squashy tote bag head to Marks & Spencers or maybe test the water with socks in shades of chocolate at John Lewis. Brown with a blue denim jean is a classic, think a brown suede jacket (Zara have a great option but also look at vintage) with a white t-shirt and straight leg blue jeans, the trick with brown this season is to opt for simple pieces, nothing tooled, while i have seen fringing out there, if its an investment buy, cowgirl should not be the memo, leather pieces should be simple in shape and design, opt for volume that’s how to keep this look modern.
