What you got - catwalk edition

I could talk all day about the runway shows for Spring Summer 2024,  Christopher Esber; Bottega Veneta; Khaite; Loewe; Dior, there are no two ways about it, the clothes were stunningly beautiful but full disclosure, I won’t be buying any of it because its eye wateringly expensive, not that it isn’t worth the money, its all relative to your budget, and am certain the craftsmanship will be incredible, but so is the price tag. 

So, if like me you would need to rob a bank to shop these designers, this my fashion comrade is for you, my low down on the features, details and colours to look out in both your existing wardrobe, in vintage or charity shops, in your mums / dads / boyfriends / husbands / brothers / sisters / mates wardrobe or if you must, on the high street. The below will be a good starting point for early spring, I’m going to leave summer trends on the side lines until the risk of snow hits zero. 

Trousers, Tailoring in general is a thing, high waisted trousers were seen everywhere from Alaia, to Hermes, and the higher the waist-line the better, pleat front, wide leg, and nods to cargo were still visible at Saint Laurent, but not sporty, with a pointed shoe and a smart tank. Trouser suits, matching and separates, paired with simple chiffon, sheer oversized blouses or silk tanks, think minimal, 90s, Calvin Klein.

While trousers are a big deal, skirts are still on the rise, slim pencil or a more full midi length, if you were clever enough to buy a silk midi skirt in chocolate or a champagne last year, you are ahead of the curve, ditto leather skirts and leather blazers. 

Reach for your well cut blazers, look for collarless Jackets in particular, not so much cropped styles, long line jackets with a vent at the back and dig out last summers waistcoats but for spring  layer them under a blazer or over a white shirt as a 2 piece suit with jeans.

Flats as you probably already know are back, pick your poison, ballet, pointy or square toe and look out for details like mesh, bows and buckles. Kitten heels are still invited to the party, and heels, well heels never really left. 

Colour wise imagine the most ostentatious description for a muted neutral shade and you’re on the right path, Latte, Cappuccino, Tobacco, Sage, Butter, Vanilla & Blush, sounds extra but doesn’t cost a thing, just the way we like it.
