Wheres Bernie ?
Starved of fashion moments due to the lack of movie premieres, catwalk shows and the promotional juggernauts
celebrities usually dress up for, I have been forced to get my sartorial kicks wherever i can, Instagram only satisfies me for so long, my current influencers of choice are those posing on bridges in De 9 Straatjes in Amsterdam.
On January 20th my appetite for all things fashion was satisfied thanks to the Inauguration of Kamala Harris as the first ever Black and South Asian American woman as Vice President of the United States (along with Joe Biden as POTUS but thats not the fun part) Harris, wore a regal looking purple dress and jacket by Christopher John Rogers.
Why is the swearing in of the American President so much more showbiz than when we get a new Prime Minster? A-listers this time around included Lady Gaga, wearing a custom made gown by Parisian Couturier Schiaparelli for her rendition of the American National Anthem, known for her Avant Garde style, she looked every inch the superstar in a fitted Navy Cashmere jacket and full red silk skirt.
Never one to shy away from statement accessories, The Academy Award winning song writer wore an oversized gold “Dove of Peace” brooch pinned to her jacket. Gaga wasn't the only singer on the bill, Jennifer Lopez, another star who doesn’t shy away from attention, rocked up head to toe in White Chanel, but her attempt at colour blocking was thrown shade by former first lady, Michelle Obama who wore a burgundy coat and jumpsuit by Sergio Hudson, cinched in at the waist with a major gold buckle.
Despite the appearance of some seriously heavy weight celebrities the show was stolen by 22 year old Poet Laurete, Amanda Gorman. Wearing a red headband and yellow Prada coat as a personal nod to Dr Jill Biden (the incoming FLOTUS) composed and poised as she addressed the world stage.
The finishing touch to her outfit was the jewellery gifted to her by none other than Americas unofficial first lady, Oprah, the bird cage ring and hanging diamond earrings were to honour another incredible inauguration poet, Dr Maya Angelou.
Among the glitz and socially distanced glamour wearing a pair of home made re-cycled grey mittens sat Bernie Sanders and sensible coat, and equilibrium was restored.
