Dig em out

Round about now I should be talking about your wardrobe refresh, a wardrobe refresh is the fashion equivalent of a spring clean, you get rid of the dead wood. However before said wardrobe refresh commences I wanted to share with you a few pointers that may stop you experiencing remorse when the new season swings around.

As someone who (far too regularly) edits their clothes due to lack of space (physical and mental) I am directing this at those who have a habit of holding onto their clothes, hoarding some might call it, for right now its you who I envy, because it is you, the fashion faithful who file away their old clothes in the hope they will one day be back on trend who will flourish this season and next because the cycle of fashion is in full swing.

Before I start my list, note that this is not exhaustive, micro trends crawl out of the wood work on a daily basis and also, and this is an important also, Remember when a trend item is resurrected its important to remember that the styling of said item will have changed, been updated, modernised, and therefor you need to do the same.

Ballet pumps, its unlikely I need to tell you they are back, they’ve been pushing their way to the forefront of footwear trends for sometime now, following hot on the heels of the flat Mary-Jane brought back by luxury brands including Chanel, The Row and Miu Miu. The last time most of us wore ballet pumps they were of the stretchy variety, bonus points if you owned a pair of Bloch or Repetto as you too will remember the discomfort of feeling as though you are walking directly on the pavement itself due to the wafer thin sole. Its pretty hard to find an outfit ballet pumps don’t work with, but if you want an instant update give them a whirl with this seasons full a-line skirts or perhaps double denim (denim shirts are another thing I am going to wish i had hung on to)

I’m not sure who we should thank for this next one but its between Beyonce and Pharell for Louis Vuitton, Cowboy boots, the shoe that’s had more rise and falls than a west end theatre curtain is back again. If you’re a true original you might own a pair from R Soles on the Kings Road, later takers may have been inspired by Madonna in the early 00s while if you are a late adopter Ganni might grace your inner sole, either way if you’re wearing them this time around, give denim cuts off skirts a wide berth.

One trend that although I loved it first time around is going to need to give me some time to adjust is Boho, single handedly dragged to the front of the queue by Chemena Kamali at Chloe for AW24, billowy chiffon, lacy ruffles, fringe trim, snake belts, wooden wedges, capes, you name it she brought back all the boho babes favourites.

No coin belts though. Sorry Sienna.
