Copenhagen Fashion Week held its first in-person event last week since the Pandemic Began, always ahead of the curve, the Danish Fashion Institute prioritised sustainability for this seasons schedule, issuing a guide to Designers on how to produce a more responsible show, with environmental recommendations to reduce their carbon footprint when booking models and inviting international guests, extending their existing ban on single use plastic bottles to include plastic hangers and garment bags, discouraging wasteful goodie bags and encouraging paperless communication.

Off the catwalk street style was setting the tone for Winter 2022 outerwear  the influencers that head to the Danish Capital are almost always a season ahead with their Nordic Aesthetic so even if your mind is focused on Spring its worth taking note of the trends for the future. Quilted coats were still a thing, but accented with expertly layered bold colours, Kelly Green, Orange and Lilac with flashes of neon. Tailored Outerwear was oversized, of course, and it smartened up their cargo-pants and trainers, and the trend that creeped in at the tail end of last year, knitted balaclavas were spotted too.

On the Catwalk, Trends with longevity were the order of the day from both new and emerging brands, Tailoring topped the bill, Stine Goya who aim to be a fully sustainable brand by 2025 went for playful sherbet shades of Lavender paired with zingy lime. Day Birger et Mikkelsen and Baum und Pferdgarden went for classic masculine styles in black and brown, while Samsoe Samsoe went for slouchy 90s inspired suiting in block colour brights. Lovers of Leisure wear will be happy to know elements of sportswear remain and track pants are still around, everyones favourite Scandinavian brand, Ganni opted for alternative fabrics such as Nylon to keep them looking fresh.

Fashion week is a showcase, a precursor to us buying more clothes. while shopping and sustainability are at odds with one another, we will continue to buy clothes, so its important we try and avoid waste. Choose clothes you think you will wear frequently and for years to come, for want of a better word choose “useful” clothes, its a way to be sustainable we often overlook. Raincoats featured heavily across the collections in Copenhagen, and there is nothing quite as useful as a raincoat when you live in the UK. Rodebjer won my heart with their Tobacco coloured trench and Holzweilers Azure blue windbreaker was a close second, If you spot me doing a rain dance, now you know why.
